Strength (Str) is an attribute.
It's primary role is the character's capacity to take wounds, wield heavy weapons, carry things, etc.
This attribute's initial value acts like a wound buffer. Whenever the character takes damage - during battle, by falling, from traps, etc. - any armor-penatrating part is deducted from Strength also. When Str reaches 0, the character effectively dies!
Str also plays a role in the load a character can carry.
End and Str together make the primary attributes in battles.
While Str is generally lost slowly, it is regained very slowly also. It gradually restores as time passes in-game, but at an extremely slow rate. It restores faster by resting, but generally some dedicated healing is necessary to restore it properly.
Note that a character with low (current) strength is not only close to death, but may also suffer from load and weapon-skill penalties more easily.
